Best Season to visit Munnar
Munnar has emerged as an all-season destination. The tourist season at Munnar, like all the other popular tourist destinations in Kerala starts from August and runs up to March. However, unlike other destinations, Munnar has a summer season in April to May when crowds come to this cool hill station to escape the heat in the plains. Munnar is less crowded from June to July during the monsoon season.

Tata Tea Museum is located at the Nallathanni estate and the museum has curios and photographs that traces the growth and evolution of tea plantations in Munnar right from the tea sapling to an automated tea factory where it is processes. Pothamedu View Point: You can watch the beauty of the Munnar mist that is engulfing the green hills from Pothanmedu View point. The drive to the Pothamedu View Point takes you over an old bridge and narrow roads and the views during the drive is also very scenic. Attukal Waterfalls is a must go tourist spot in Munnar where you can view a waterfall amidst hills and jungles. The waterfalls are at a nice location between Munnar and pallivasal and the road to reach itself is so beautiful. There is a narrow bridge through which you can drive your car and watch the falls but this is slightly risky as there are potholes in the bridge. There’s a small tea shop cum view point near the falls from which one can have a close look at the falls and sip a hot cup of cardamom tea.

Top Station is a view point at the highest altitude in Munnar If you are visiting Munnar, you need to be very lucky to reach top station when the sky is clear – without fog. It rains in Munnar frequently as a result of which fog covers the beautiful views from Munnar. The drive to top station is pretty long but the drive has beautiful views, tea gardens and two dams on the way. It is better to visit the Top Station initially and visit the dams etc. on the way back if you are planning to start early from Munnar.

Cheeyappara Falls are on the way to Munnar after Neriamangalam and before Adimali and flows down in seven steps making a great view from the road near the second step from bottom. If you are into hiking, then Meesapulimala trekking will be a good activity to do in Munnar. The trek starts from a place called silent vally and goes in between the tea gardens and forests . Most locations in Munnar are generally known for their slopes, rare fauna and a wonderful view of the valley. Vattavada, however, is known for its vegetables. These terraced slopes and valleys, located 45 km to the east of Munnar, contain some of the finest crops and produce in all of Kerala. The trekking routes are special in Vattavada as they are connected to many other important destinations in the area. A trek here can get you to other tourist favourites like Kodaikanal, Top Station, Mattupetty, Kanthaloor and Meesapulimala.

Rajamala
This is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr. Nearly half of the world population of this rare mountain goat (Hemitragas hylocres), which is an endangered species is now found here. Visitors are able to watch the Nilgiri Tahr very close in this park.
Devikulam
This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot.
Pallivasal
This is the site of the first hydro-electric project in Kerala and a place of immense scenic beauty.
Attukad
A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukad, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treks.
Pothanmedu
Pothanmedu offers an excellent view of tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills and the lush mountains here are ideal for trekking and long mountain walks.
Nyayamakad
Located between Munnar and Rajamala, Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1,600 metres. The enchanting surroundings make an excellent picnic spot and trekking point. Gravel Banks, the delightful trout fishing site, are tucked away in a remote corner of Nyayamakad Estate.
Chithirapuram
With its sleepy little cottages, bungalows, old playgrounds and courts, Chithirapuram still exudes an old world charm. The Pallivasal Hydel Power Project is situated here. The hill town is also famous for its picturesque tea plantations.
Mount Carmel Church
Established in 1898, this was the first Roman Catholic Church in the High Ranges.
Echo Point
This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here. Echo Point is on the way to Top Station from Munnar.
Power House Waterfall
This waterfall on the way to Thekkady from Munnar cascades down a steep rock 2000 m above sea level. The spot is enriched with the scenic western mountain ranges and is an ideal place for a break on the way to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady.
Anayirankal
This place is a lush green carpet of tea plants. The Anayirankal Dam is surrounded by the Tata Tea Plantation and evergreen forests. It is an ideal picnic spot and a boat ride on the splendid reservoir is an unforgettable experience.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Situated on the Tamil Nadu border, the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 90.44 sq. km. Most of the animals found in the South India region can be spotted in this forest. These include the grizzled giant squirrel, champal squirrel, elephant, sambar deer, gaur etc.
